Some rulers have combined the two aforementioned titles and have instead held the title Protector of the Seven Kingdoms. The ruler usually also holds the title and office of Protector of the Realm, the commander of the armies of the Seven Kingdoms (led by the four Wardens). The office of "Protector of the Realm" is sometimes given to someone other than the current monarch, particularly during a regency when the ruler is under-aged, though if the current ruler does not possess great martial skill he may simply choose to delegate the office to someone else. In the aftermath of the Battle of King's Landing, the Iron Throne was destroyed and the hereditary monarchy was transformed into an elective one during the Great Council of 305 AC, with the lords and ladies of the realm electing each new ruler, the first being King Bran the Broken. The monarch also takes the title of "Lord of the Six Kingdoms" due the secession of the North. Viserys I Targaryen was chosen to succeed his grandfather Jaehaerys I at the Great Council of 101 AC.

Robert demands that Eddard ride with him on one of the days on their journey. Ned insists that Robert shouldn't give so much power to Jaime Lannister, and offers Stannis Baratheon or Robert Arryn as potential Wardens of the East. House Baratheon became the royal house of the Seven Kingdoms (as House Baratheon of King's Landing) after Robert Baratheon led a rebellion against the Targaryen dynasty. At the end of the rebellion, Robert ascended the Iron Throne as Robert I and married Cersei Lannister after the death of Lyanna Stark. As the only human cameo from the Fallout games thus far in the Prime Video TV series, and with New Vegas very literally looming on the show’s horizon, it seems only natural that we’ll see Robert House appear at some point in Fallout season two.

Before he dies, he has Ned scribe a document that details that Ned shall be named the Protector of the Realm until Joffrey comes of age. Ned leaves him, and he is given milk of the poppy to help with his pain. Robert plans to fight in the melee section of the tourney, though Cersei suggests that he should not. He publicly shouts at her over the issue during the feast to celebrate the first day of the jousts. Ned and Ser Barristan Selmy manage to convince Robert to withdraw from the melee the following day.

Cersei Lannister noted that he would sometimes come to her bed drunk and, essentially, rape her (husbands had the right to bed their wives regardless of what the wife says). Eddard Stark once noted (in thought) that Robert would promise a woman the world and then forget everything, including her, in the morning. Finally, during the feast at the Tourney of the Kings Hand, Cersei forbade Robert to fight, with Robert drunkenly shouting that he will. The next morning, Eddard Stark and Ser Barristan Selmy are discussing the argument, and Ser Barristan notes how most men will forget such words.

With advice from his brother, Renly, he tasks the council to assassinate her and her brother Viserys Targaryen. However, Eddard vehemently refuses the proposal and walks out of the throne room. With Ned (now Lord of Winterfell) rallying the North and Robert rallying the stormlands, a rebellion against the crown got incited. Though some of Jon Arynn and Robert’s men stayed loyal to the throne, Robert tried to march north to meet with Jon. However, his defeat at Randyll Tarly‘s hands led to him escaping to avoid capture. Acknowledging Robert’s Rebellion as a threat, Aerys replaced Lord Owen Merryweather with Jon Connington as the Hand of the King.
At the 281 AC tourney in Harrenhal, he partook in the melee, and Prince of Dragonstone, Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, the heir to the Iron Throne, won the joust. After winning, Prince Rhaegar crowned Lyanna, the queen of love and beauty, over his wife, Elia. Royal inheritance laws are different from normal inheritance laws, putting female heirs behind all possible male ones, meaning that Myrcella actually ranked behind Stannis and Renly. Even in the TV series, Renly specifies in Season 1's "The Wolf and the Lion" that he is fourth in line to the throne, behind Joffrey, Tommen, and Stannis - but skipping Myrcella. The Lannisters tried to at least maintain the pretense that Joffrey was Robert's lawful heir.
These developments effectively left the young, untested Tommen ruling with only Pycelle and Qyburn to assist him. Pycelle, intent on restoring some semblance of control and determined to keep Qyburn out of power, uses his authority as Grand Maester to summon Kevan back as Hand of the King. Cersei eventually agrees to undergo the walk of atonement to be allowed back into the Red Keep, but once there, is kept under house arrest and denied access to the Small Council. Cersei and Pycelle fight for control over Tommen, who decides to begin at least trying to play the game of thrones, rather than standing by.
The death of Lyanna and no battles to fight left him with a profound loss of purpose, causing him to lose his fighting form and grow fat from the excess the crown provided him. He did however mention that the only reason he never abdicated the throne was because he never wanted Joffrey or Cersei to have control of the realm when he was gone, likely realizing his heir and wife would be more ruthless and just as incompetent as he was. When Robert Baratheon's betrothed, Lyanna Stark, was kidnapped by Rhaegar Targaryen, he was enraged and raised his banners in rebellion against King Aerys II, along with Lyanna's brother (and Robert's best friend) Eddard Stark. They were joined by several other houses in a civil war known as Robert's Rebellion. Robert's army smashed the royal host at the Battle of the Trident and put it to rout. The treachery of House Lannister delivered the capital at King's Landing to Robert.
As a huge fan of The Golden Girls seeing their “Miami” house in person was a thrill! I recently had the opportunity to see the inside of the home when it went on sale as it turns out that I knew the realtor. A great deal of people lost respect for Robert after he won the Iron Throne, dismissing him as a sot, a brute and a drunken fool, Eddard Stark being one of the few exceptions. Robert always dismissed financial matters casually as "counting coppers", according to his brother Renly, ignoring the danger of being in debt both to the Iron Bank and to a man as ruthless and ambitious as Tywin Lannister. Also, he expressed a certain amount of charisma when he met Ned's children at Winterfell, shaking hands with Robb, complimenting Sansa's beauty and even playfully suggesting that Bran would be a soldier.

With his expertise in writing, Joshua works to scrutinize pieces of literature. Though he was free-spirited and promiscuous, he had and always loved one woman, Lyanna Stark.
By the second novel, corresponding to Season 2, Joffrey just used his personal sigil so prolifically at court that it became established as the new heraldry for his cadet branch of House Baratheon. Robert's greatest strength lay in his ability to win himself allies after battle and his charismatic leadership. Stannis recounts that men who he had fought with during the day would often be drinking, feasting, and laughing with him the same evening.
